Introducing Brisbane's best kept secret (until now), THE NEW BUZZ! A fresh collective of seasoned players who bring the dust and grit from the streets of West End to their deep soul and raw funk stylings.
Valley Heat Records are overjoyed to present their debut 7" single, slated for release this Summer.
Out in front is 'Like We Used To' featuring rising electro-soul diva Jess Lean of The Brains Trust. This straight-up floor-smasher is a non-stop soul party crammed into a lean two and a half minutes. With a strong nod to Northern Soul, this tune will snap ankles, slip backbones and take any party to the next level.
'Silver Linings' on the flip is something of a 'funk experiment' recorded on an old tape deck purchased at a garage sale from a lovely elderly man who wasn't even sure if the thing worked. The result is a hot-stepping trip back in time with a beat that trawls the gutters and a groove that's from outer space. This is funk that'll have you on that good foot from the first twang.
The New Buzz formed out of a recording project to get funk and soul tracks down in the most raw, most live way possible at their local house of vibe, The Tanuki Lounge.
In true collaborative spirit, the tracks are written and recorded in a single session (often in a single take) on vintage and up-cycled gear that includes a guitar amp picked up from Kerbside Collection, a vintage drum kit, a home-made keys amp and a bass amp that spent the Brisbane '74 floods in the trunk of car in the city, now lovingly called 'Floodie'.
With influences spanning the funk and soul spectrum - we're talking Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, The Staple Singers, Sly & The Family Stone, The Budos Band, The JB's, Sharon Jones and Curtis Mayfield - The New Buzz are injecting Brisbane with a desperately needed dose of original soul music.
Its a get down situation!!
